The percentage of elderly people with dementia in Greece is approximately 5%, while 75% of them have dementia due to Alzheimer&#8217;s disease. This number will double in the next 20 to 30 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Signs_and_Symptoms\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 18pt;\">Signs and Symptoms<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_10667\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10667\" class=\"wp-image-10667 size-medium\" title=\"Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease.ent\" src=\"https:\/\/ent.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Alzheimer-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease.ent\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10667\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dementia and Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Disorders grouped under the general term \u201cdementia\u201d are caused by abnormal brain changes. These changes trigger a decline in cognitive abilities, severe enough to impair daily life and independent function. They also affect behavior, feelings and relationships.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">In addition to the impairment of mental functions, dementia also has neuropsychiatric symptoms, which appear in almost all patients.
