Candida is a normal organism in your mouth, but sometimes it can overgrow and cause symptoms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Oral thrush causes creamy white lesions, usually on your tongue or inner cheeks. Sometimes oral thrush may spread to the roof of the mouth, the gums or tonsils, or the back of the throat.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11747\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11747\" class=\"wp-image-11747 size-medium\" title=\"Oral Thrush.ent\" src=\"https:\/\/ent.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/%CE%9C%CF%85%CE%BA%CE%B7%CF%84%CE%AF%CE%B1%CF%83%CE%B7%CF%82-%CF%83%CF%84%CF%8C%CE%BC%CE%B1%CF%84%CE%BF%CF%82.%CE%B5%CF%85%CE%AF%CE%B1%CF%83%CE%B9%CF%82-300x241.jpg\" alt=\"Oral Thrush.ent\" width=\"300\" height=\"241\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11747\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Oral Thrush<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Although oral thrush can affect anyone, it&#8217;s more likely to occur in babies and older adults due to reduced immunity; in other people with suppressed immune systems or certain health conditions; or people who take certain medications. Oral thrush is a minor problem if you&#8217;re healthy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">In severe cases, usually related to cancer or a weakened immune system from HIV\/AIDS, the lesions may spread downward into the esophagus. If this occurs, you may experience difficulty swallowing and pain or feel as if food is getting stuck in your throat.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prevention_of_Oral_Thrush\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 14pt;\">Prevention of Oral Thrush<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">These measures may help reduce the risk of developing candida infections:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Rinse your mouth. If you need to use a corticosteroid inhaler, be sure to rinse your mouth with water or brush your teeth after taking your medication.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily or as often as your dentist recommends.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Remove your dentures at night. Make sure dentures fit properly and don&#8217;t cause irritation. Clean your dentures daily.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">See your dentist regularly, especially if you have diabetes or wear <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/dentures\/\">dentures<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Try limiting the amount of sugar-containing foods you eat.
