Thus, we do not feel disorientated or have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ent.gr\/en\/vertigo-dizziness-2\/\">dizziness<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Together with the cochlea, the vestibular system constitutes the labyrinth of the inner ear and is situated in the vestibulum. \u03a4he vestibular system comprises of two components: the semicircular canal system, which indicate rotational movements; and the otoliths, which indicate linear accelerations.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3488\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ent.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/\u03af\u03bb\u03b9\u03b3\u03b3\u03bf\u03c21_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3488\" class=\"wp-image-3488 size-medium\" title=\"Vestibular Rehabilitation and Balance.ent\" src=\"https:\/\/ent.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/%CE%AF%CE%BB%CE%B9%CE%B3%CE%B3%CE%BF%CF%821_2-300x147.jpg\" alt=\"Vestibular Rehabilitation and Balance.ent\" width=\"300\" height=\"147\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3488\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vestibular Rehabilitation and balance<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">The vestibular system sends signals primarily to the neural structures that control eye movements, and to the muscles that keep us upright. The projections to the former provide the anatomical basis of the vestibulo-ocular reflex, which is required for clear vision; and the projections to the muscles that control posture in order to keep us upright.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">The brain uses information from the vestibular system, the cerebellum and from proprioception throughout the body to understand the body&#8217;s dynamics and kinematics from moment to moment.<\/span><\/div>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Vestibular_rehabilitation_therapy_VRT\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 18pt;\">Vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT)<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">VRT is a specific form of physical therapy designed to habituate symptoms, and promote adaptation to a variety of balance disorders.\u00a0VRT is effective in improving the functional deficits and subjective symptoms resulting from unilateral and bilateral peripheral vestibular hypofunction as well as from central balance disorders.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Vestibular rehabilitation (VR), or vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) is a specialized form of therapy intended to alleviate both the primary and secondary problems caused by vestibular disorders.It is an exercise-based program primarily designed to reduce vertigo and dizziness, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sierranevadaent.com\/balance-therapy\/gaze-instability\">gaze instability<\/a>, and\/or imbalance and falls.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: helvetica;\">References<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: helvetica;\">Sulway S, Whitney SL.
