Patients may be groggy for several hours after surgery. Some may remain sleepy for much of the rest of the day. Nausea and vomiting are occasionally seen and often improve by the evening of the surgery without intervention.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"BEFORE_SURGERY\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: verdana, geneva;\">BEFORE SURGERY:<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No aspirin, \u00a0Ibuprofen, \u00a0or any other\u00a0anti-inflammatory medicine for one week before and one week after surgery.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Also avoid Vitamin E, herbal supplements, herbal teas, and red wine for one\u00a0week prior to surgery.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If you take Coumarin or\u00a0other blood thinners please discuss this with your surgeon.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Please do not eat or\u00a0drink anything after midnight the night before surgery, but you may take any\u00a0prescription medicines the morning of surgery with a sip of water.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Make arrangements for a ride home after surgery.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"PAIN\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: verdana, geneva;\">PAIN:\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_10424\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10424\" class=\"wp-image-10424 size-medium\" title=\"Instructions for Septoplasty: Before and after.ent\" src=\"https:\/\/ent.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Septoplasty.ent_-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"Instructions for Septoplasty: Before and after.ent\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10424\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Instructions for Septoplasty: Before and after<\/p><\/div>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">A moderate amount of pain is normal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">A feeling of severe congestion and\u00a0frequent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.satory.gr\/en\/acupuncture-neurological-diseases\/migraine-headache-tension-headache\/\">headaches<\/a> are also to be expected. Some of the discomfort is related\u00a0to the surgery; most of it is related to the splints that have been placed inside\u00a0your nose, which will be removed in 2-3days. Severe, \u201cdeep\u201d or worsening pain\u00a0should be reported to our office immediately as it may indicate bleeding under\u00a0the surgical site.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ent.gr\/en\/allergic-rhinitis\/nasal-spray-the-corticosteroids-are-not-the-problem\/\">NASAL OBSTRUCTION\/CONGESTION<\/a>\u00a0may be present for 3-4 weeks. This will\u00a0initially be caused by the splints and after the splints are removed there will be\u00a0swelling due to the surgery itself.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">\u2022\u00a0DO NOT BLOW YOUR NOSE\u00a0for two weeks, as this can do damage to<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">healing tissue.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">\u2022 If you remain congested or feel something in your nose, do not attempt to\u00a0pull it out yourself. Call our office for an appointment, as sometimes blood\u00a0clots or mucous need to be removed.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">\u2022\u00a0Sleeping with your head elevated about 30 degrees by a stack of pillows\u00a0or a reclining chair will help with the discomfort during the first week after\u00a0surgery.<\/span><\/div>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"GENERAL_INSTRUCTIONS\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: verdana, geneva;\">GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">DO NOT\u00a0drive, make important decisions, use power tools, drink alcohol,\u00a0tend children, or climb ladders for the first day or two after surgery. Your\u00a0judgment or alertness is probably seriously impaired.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">Fainting or lightheadedness may occur. Use caution and move slowly\u00a0when getting up from a bed or chair.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">Avoid strenuous activities or lifting any object heavier than 20 pounds for\u00a0the next 2-3 weeks.
