LPR (silent reflux) can occur during the day or night, even if a person who has LPR hasn&#8217;t eaten a thing.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Silent_Reflux_Can_Cause\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 18pt;\">Silent Reflux Can Cause:<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Hoarseness<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">A &#8220;lump&#8221; in the throat<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Trouble swallowing<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Chronic cough<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Too much throat mucus<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Heartburn<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">There are many symptoms of LPR, all of which relate to sensations in the throat. Fifty percent of people with LPR do not have symptoms of heartburn or indigestion.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Diagnosis_of_Laryngeal_Reflux\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 14pt;\">Diagnosis of Laryngeal Reflux:<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Most often, the ENT surgeon can diagnose LPR through a combination of a medical history and symptom score and a thorough clinical examination of \u00a0your throat and vocal cords with a rigid or flexible endocope. The voice box is typically red, irritated, and swollen from acid reflux damage. This swelling and inflammation will eventually resolve with medical treatment, although it may take a few months.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Treatment\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 14pt;\">Treatment<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Most of the time, LPR is well controlled with medications (Proton Pump Inhibitors, or PPI&#8217;s), taken long periods of time.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 161px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ent.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/71.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Treatment of Laryngeal Reflux.ent\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ent.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/71-151x300.jpg\" alt=\"Treatment of Laryngeal Reflux.ent\" width=\"151\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Treatment of Laryngeal Reflux<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Silent reflux treatment for adults may include these\u00a0lifestyle modifications:<\/span><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Lose weight, if needed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.satory.gr\/en\/smoking-cessation\/\">Quit smoking,<\/a> if you are a smoker.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Avoid alcohol.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Restrict chocolate, mints, fats, citrus fruits, carbonated beverages, spicy or tomato-based products, red wine, and caffeine.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Stop eating at least three hours before going to bed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">Elevate the head of the bed about 4 to 6 inches.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: helvetica;
