A loss of 30 decibels in three connected frequencies, over a period of three days, is considered SSHL. It should be considered a medical emergency.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">Only 10 to 15 percent of the people diagnosed with SSHL have an identifiable cause. The most common causes are:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Causes_of_Sudden_sensorineural_hearing_loss\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: verdana, geneva;\">Causes of Sudden sensorineural hearing loss<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">Infectious diseases<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">Trauma, such as a head injury<\/span><\/span>\n<div style=\"width: 407px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ent.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/%CE%B1%CE%B9%CF%86%CE%BD%CE%AF%CE%B4%CE%B9%CE%B1-%CE%B2%CE%B1%CF%81%CE%B7%CE%BA%CE%BF%CE%AF%CE%B1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Sudden sensorineural hearing loss.ent\" src=\"https:\/\/ent.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/%CE%B1%CE%B9%CF%86%CE%BD%CE%AF%CE%B4%CE%B9%CE%B1-%CE%B2%CE%B1%CF%81%CE%B7%CE%BA%CE%BF%CE%AF%CE%B1-300x127.jpg\" alt=\"Sudden sensorineural hearing loss.ent\" width=\"397\" height=\"167\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sudden sensorineural hearing loss<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">Autoimmune diseases such as Cogan\u2019s syndrome<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">Ototoxic drugs (drugs that harm the sensory cells in the inner ear)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">Blood circulation problems<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">A tumor on the nerve that connects the ear to the brain<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">Neurologic diseases and disorders, such as multiple sclerosis<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">Disorders of the inner ear, such as M\u00e9ni\u00e8re\u2019s disease<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Diagnosis\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: verdana, geneva;\">Diagnosis<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica;\">Audiometry tests will be performed to evaluate your hearing more thoroughly and precisely. A series of different sounds and volume levels may be sent to each ear individually.
